Sustainable Fisheries

At Fortidex, sustainability is embedded across our operations from responsible sourcing to environmental management and process control.

We are certified under MarinTrust, ensuring our alignment with responsible fishing practices, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility toward our people and surrounding communities. As a founding member in Ecuador of the MarinTrust FIP (Fishery Improvement Project), we actively contribute to strengthening sustainable fisheries, traceability, and international standards that support the preservation of marine ecosystems.

Environmental responsibility is a core part
of our industrial processes.

All industrial effluents are treated through specialized wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) before discharge. These systems operate through integrated physical, chemical, and biological processes, ensuring the safe removal of organic matter and nutrients, and full compliance with environmental regulations.

At both our Taura and Data facilities, dedicated wastewater treatment plants manage effluents generated during the production of shrimp and fish meal, oils, and marine hydrolysates. 

Through advanced physicochemical and biological treatment processes, all discharged water is treated to ensure environmental compliance and the protection of surrounding ecosystems.

In addition, Fortidex has implemented carbon footprint quantification across all its products, reinforcing our commitment to measuring and managing environmental impact. 

As part of our continuous improvement strategy, we have also initiated the carbon footprint certification process.

Data Plant

Quality Control & Analytical Technology

At our Data facility, technology is centered on advanced quality control and analytical capabilities.

From raw material reception to final validation, the plant applies rigorous control systems, including organoleptic analysis, TVN and histamine monitoring, and real-time process verification.

The use of Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIR) allows fast, non-destructive measurement of key parameters such as protein, fat, moisture, ash, and freshness indicators, ensuring compliance with technical specifications throughout the process.

Final product validation is conducted using internationally recognized methodologies such as Dumas and Kjeldahl for protein analysis, Soxhlet extraction for fat determination, and thermobalance and muffle furnace systems for moisture and ash. These systems, combined with external certified laboratory validation, ensure high levels of accuracy, reliability, and product consistency.
